Bert J. Sitton, Jr., 85, of Hendersonville passed away Wednesday May 27, 2009 at the Elizabeth House after declining health from Lou Gerhig’s disease.

He was the son of the late Bert J. Sitton Sr. and Bettie McCrary Sitton.

He was predeceased by 3 brothers Harry Sitton, Hicks Sitton and Charles Sitton and 4 sisters Pauline Harrell, Helen Dalton, Sue Sutton and Ruth Rollins.

A 1940 graduate of Hendersonville High School he served in the US Army during WWII and was retired from full time work from Cason Company in 1988. He was a historian and a charter member of Henderson County Genealogical and Historical Society where he has helped publish two Henderson county heritage books.

He served Grace Lutheran Church for over 60 years where he was an active member.

Survivors include his loving wife of over 60 years Dorothy Justus Sitton, one son John G. Sitton of Hendersonville, one daughter Gayle Etherton and her husband Jud of Hendersonville, two brothers Thomas Sitton {Ginny} of Lakeland Fl. and Robert Sitton {Betty} of Hampstead MD, three grandchildren, Julie Parker {Jeff }of Salisbury NC, Dottie Morgan {Chad} of Orlando Fl, and Myra McDonough {Kip} of Hickory NC, four great grandchildren, Will and Landon Morgan and Sarah and Brian Parker and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10 am Saturday at the Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev Kenneth Langsdorf officiating. Interment will follow at the Sitton Gillespie Cemetery in Mills River. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 7:30 pm at the funeral home.
