Jack H. Sherman, 79, of Hendersonville was suddenly and peacefully called home to heaven Friday, February 6, 2009. He was a native and life-long resident of Henderson County, the son of the late Adolphus Sherman and Maude E. Sherman. He was a descendent of the legendary road builder Solomon Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kitty Pierce Sherman; a daughter, Julie S. Matlock of Arizona; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, his brothers, A.D. Sherman, Jr. and Billy Sherman, preceded him in death.
He was a faithful member of Maranatha Baptist Church, East Flat Rock. He was a soloist and member of the choir. He was blessed with a very pleasant, mellow singing voice and loved gospel music.
He was a graduate of Porter Military Academy, Charleston, SC. He was a professional builder and contractor. His partner in building was his loving wife Kitty, who worked alongside him on every project. They were the perfect team.
A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, February 11, at 2:30pm at Maranatha Baptist Church, East Flat Rock. Pastor Lewis Staton will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be: Larry Ballard, Steve Capps, Tony Capps, Scott Ennis, Phil Hyder and R.F. Saltz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maranatha Baptist Church, Preacher’s Kids (children’s program), P.O. Box 514, East Flat Rock, NC 28726.
