Allen Glenn Ownbey, 71, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the Elizabeth House.

He was the son of Melva Ownbey Fisher of St. Augustine, Florida and the late Glenn Ownbey and was also preceded in death by his wife, Sara Christopher Ownbey and step-father, Robert Fisher.

He had lived the past number of years in North East Florida but had lived most of his life in Hendersonville and Asheville.

Allen worked for Southern Railway, The Asheville Citizen Times Newspaper, was a Reserve Officer with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, worked security at Wilson Art, spent most of his years and retired with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 Unit and had served in the US Navy.

Allen was a member of the Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446, Shriners, Hendersonville American Legion Post #77, Hendersonville Elks Lodge #1616 and the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club of Daytona, Florida and was of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by his son, Tony Ownbey of Fletcher, NC; his daughter, Kim Rhodes and fiancé, Mike Spachman of Hendersonville, NC; a brother, Ronnie Ownbey and wife Lori of Weaverville, NC; his sister, Georgia Koeth and husband Len of St. Augustine, Florida; his brother in law, Bobby Christopher and wife Theresa of Arden, NC; four grandchildren, Austin, Justin and Syara Ownbey and Zachary Rhodes/ several nieces, nephews, many friends and his K-9 partner Mingo.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at the Chapel In The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service with Rev. Jimmy Taylor officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Henderson County Honor Guard and The Hendersonville Elks Lodge #1616 will conduct The Elks Rest Ceremony. Burial will follow at Tweeds Chapel Cemetery with Masonic Rites conducted by the Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446. The Masonic Lodge will be open at 12:30 Wednesday.

The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Jackson Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Allen’s name to Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care; 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
