Gladys Hill Owenby
Gladys Hill Owenby, of the Broad River Community passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010 at her home.
She was a native of Henderson County and had lived in Buncombe County for most of her life.
She was the daughter of the late Joe Hill Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Freeman Hill.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Loly "Ben" Owenby, a son, Douglas Owenby, a sister, Marie Warren and a brother, Joe Hill Jr.
She was a volunteer at the Broad River Community Center, a member of the Broad River Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary where she was the department Treasurer for 30 years.
She was a great cook and loved her family.
She is survived by a son, Ronnie "Ron" Owenby and his wife Pat of Broad River; a daughter, Lorraine Wheeler and her husband Dennis of Bat Cave; a daughter-in-law, Martha Owenby; five grandchildren, Robert, Lindsey, Dustin, Kevin and Amanda and five great grandchildren, Zaniyah, Tyler, Carson, Cameron and Samantha and a nephew, Dr. David Hill.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Broad River Baptist Church where she was a member. Reverend Joe George will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm and at other times will be at her home.
