Thomas A. Chickos
Thomas A. Chickos, 66, passed away on January 24, 2010, after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. He spent the last weeks of life in the loving care of his family.
Tom was born in Akron, Ohio on September 16, 1943. He attended Saint Mary’s High School and graduated from Akron’s South High in 1961. He married his high-school sweetheart, Damaris, in 1965. He was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for many years. Tom relocated to Asheville, NC more than twenty years ago, where he enjoyed sharing his landscaping talents and developing many wonderful friendships.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rose Chickos; his brothers, Charles "Chick" and Joe (Anna); and his wife and friend, Damaris. He is survived by his brother, John (Jane) Chickos of Rotonda West, FL and sister, Kathy Chickos of Asheville, NC. He also leaves his children, Kathleen (Brian) McCormick of Munroe Falls, OH, Thomas S. (Alicia) Chickos of Asheville, NC, Frank (Kelly) Chickos of Twinsburg, OH, Kris Chickos of Ravenna, OH and Dr. Rosemary (Tony) Ramoso of Barberton, OH. He leaves grandchildren, Rachel, Audrey, Rick, Sean, Mary, Jessica, Keith, Carrie, Brandon, Madison and Sydney; and great-grandchildren Ashton, Abigail, Ricky, Chase, Aidan, Mason, Kylee, Braydon and Noah. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
There are no words to describe our pride for Dad. He taught us many invaluable lessons, especially how to become the people we are meant to be. We will always be grateful for his example of strength and love.
Friends may call at Jackson Funeral Service on Thursday, January 28, 2010 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of other remembrances, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Compassion For Life, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
