Mildred “Mickey” Drake Nelson of Lake Lure, NC passed away on the morning of Tuesday, March 3rd.

She was a native of Charleston, SC and lived in Lake Lure, NC for more than 32 years. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Cordie Drake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Nelson. She loved her family, pets, traveling, playing bridge, cooking, the beautiful mountains, and watching the sunset on Lake Lure from her boat. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Surviving are her two daughters, Toni Thompson Janis and husband Ken of Charleston, SC and Jackie Thompson Dunlop and husband Fred of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Ashley Janis Perry and husband Wells of Charleston, SC, Holt Dunlop and wife Beth of Los Angeles, CA, and Lindsay Dunlop Griffin and husband Tripp of Charlotte, NC; three great grandchildren, Taylor Perry, Gunner Dunlop, and Sadie Griffin; a sister Earline Drake Rodeschin of Raleigh, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the Church of the Transfiguration in Bat Cave, NC. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Following the burial there will be a reception in the Parish Hall. The family will receive friends from 2 pm to 4 pm on Saturday at Jackson Funeral Home in Hendersonville, NC.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the Church of the Transfiguration in Bat Cave, NC, or the Charleston Animal Society and Pet Helpers in Charleston, SC.
