Richard W. �Dickie� McCrain, 72, passed away Thursday , February 12, 2009 at Pardee Hospital.
He was a native to Henderson County and attended Dana School. He was the beloved son of Reetha Byers McCrain and the late Eley �Dick� McCrain.
He began working at Jackson Funeral Service back in the day when the ambulance service was part of the business, with founders Clyde and Kate Jackson. Jackson Funeral Service spanned three generations and is currently owned by Mr. and Mrs. Jackson�s grandson, Jay, who was like a son to Richard.
He gave comfort with his warm, gentle manner and loved his work. He would have kept working, if not for the Parkinson�s Disease.
Survivors include his dear mother, his brother Bob of Hendersonville, sister Carolyn M. and her husband David Stepp of Charlotte, Carol J. and her husband George Bradshaw, and Frances McGuinn of Hendersonville. As well as nieces and nephews, his longtime best friend, James Ball and his family, and the caring and loving staff of Life Care Center of Hendersonville where he had resided since 2007.
A service will be held Sunday at 2:00pm at the Chapel of the Pines at Jackson Funeral Service. Rev. Harold McKennish will officiate. A visitation will be one hour prior in the chapel. Burial will follow at Refuge Baptist Church in Dana.
