Sally Irving Jefferson, 85, of Hendersonville passed away on Tuesday, May 26th, 2009.

She was born to Sarah and Willard Irving in Hanson, MA, and was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters, and her husband, Wallace L. Jefferson. She graduated from Whitman High School and Brockton Business College both in Massachusetts.

She was an extraordinary woman, as comfortable wielding a hammer as a needle and thread. She remodeled seven houses and sewed throughout her life, making clothing for her family and, in her later years, hospital gowns for hospice patients.

She was an exceptional mother who worked full time and still found time to tutor her kids in math and cook a hot breakfast.

She was a special friend who was always there in times of need or to provide a laugh.

She was an avid learner who loved to travel and lived in Hanson and Davers, MA; Grafton, NH; Scottsdale, AZ; San Diego, CA; Sarasota, FL; and Hendersonville, NC. She worked for over 50 years in office administration for companies including Ocean Spray and Equifax. She was a life member of the VFW.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews, special friends, and her daughters, Sally & Cynthia Jefferson, who wish to thank the ambulance service and the staff at Pardee Hospital emergency room & the ICU for their attention. A special thanks to the Elizabeth House for their warm, caring and assistance during a very difficult time.

At her request there will be no public service. Donations to Four Seasons Hospice or the American Lung Association appreciated.
