On May 15, 2009 Herb Drew passed from this life after a long battle with cancer. He was the son of the late John Broadus Drew and Mary Dehlia Snowden Drew.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Catherine Drew; a brother, Bryan; sisters Hazel Brownlee, Lois McCort, Jessie Sundem, and Louise McRae.

He was born in Union County Florida on September 2, 1928. Residing in Florida, Maryland, Indianapolis, Detroit, Chicago, Nashville (where he met Dot), Atlanta and retired to Hendersonville in 1987. He was in the airline and motor freight industries in various management and marketing positions. He was an avid golfer and was very civic minded. Herb became the North Carolina director and Henderson County chairman for the United We Stand America and Reform Party – Ross Perot campaign for President.

Herb is survived by his loving wife of twenty-seven years, Dorothy (Dot) Jones Drew; his two sons Paul H. Drew (Kathy), John B. Drew (Tracy); a brother, James Drew and a sister, Joyce Patropulous; stepsons John, Tracy and Timothy Smartt; grandchildren; Bryan, Christy and Erin Drew; Josh (Pam) Smartt, Elizabeth Vick, Leah Harper, Amy Smartt; Stephen, Derek, Jesse, Laven, Noah, Salam, Ammatraya, Timothy Jr. Smartt, and his great grandchildren; Keeley, Tanner, Gatlin, Kadie, Mae, Noah, Olivia, Elsa; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

He never met a stranger, was a true Southern Gentleman and was loved by many. Heaven’s gain is our earthly loss.

Details of a Celebration of Herb’s Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care, 571 So. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731
