Marion Crump was born in Detroit on Feb. 13, 1920 to Arnot and Lucy Wass. She died of natural causes on April 27 at home in Brevard, NC.

She was the first person in her family to attend college, graduating from Wayne State University with a BA in arts education. In 1944, she married William B. Crump, who died in 2002. They had two daughters, who survive: Allison Crump (David Salomon) of Cambridge, Mass. and Constance Crump (Jay Simrod) of Ann Arbor, Mich.

Marion and Bill were active in the community of Northville, Michigan, where they lived for many years. Marion was an important part of the Northville Women’’s Club, the Northville Historical Society, the Northville Presbyterian Church and the Northville Garden Club. Among other legacies, she was the guiding force behind the creation of the still-popular Tivoli Fair, inspired by a trip to Copenhagen in the 1960s.

Marion took delight in the natural world. She loved gardening and observing all the creatures who inhabited her world. She also had a deep appreciation of excellence in art and design, enjoying the visual arts to her last days. Most of all, she appreciated the benefits of education and never stopped reading and learning.

As she wished, cremation has taken place. Remembrances may be made in her name to the Transylvania County Library in Brevard, NC.
