Marion Commodore "Beaver" Burgess, 72, of Hendersonville, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 28, 2008.

Known as "Beaver" to all who knew and loved him, he was the son of the late Ernest Carl and Minnie Taylor Burgess.

Beaver was one of the finest carpenters in the area, having retired from the P.T. Green Construction Company after 33 years. In his spare time, he loved to hunt and fish. He was also an avid sports fan, and participated in managing little league and senior league baseball teams. While Beaver was especially fond of fishing, hunting and sports, above all, he loved his family and his Lord. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Etowah, where he will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 51years, Suzanne Lindsey Burgess; his three children, David Ray Burgess and wife Darlene of Penrose, Donna Burgess Ballard and husband, John Paul of West Asheville, and Christopher Glenn Burgess and wife Dawn of Greer, SC; his siblings, Billie McGuinn, Walter Burgess and wife Barbara Ann, Ambers Burgess (deceased) and wife Joyce, Jeannette Singleton, E.C. "Junior" Burgess and wife Pat, Hubert Burgess and wife Gail, Ronnie Burgess and wife Nancy, Sandra Walker and Neysa Gail Green and husband Marshall; his ten grandchildren, Constance Marie Vaughn, William Beau Ballard, Jennifer Swann and husband Jarred, Lauren Paige Scarborough, Holly Rebecca Burgess and fiancé Shawn Metcalf, Amanda Lauren Head, Lindsey Gail Burgess, Rebecca Nicole Burgess, Adam Christopher Burgess, Anna Elizabeth Burgess and one great-grandchild, Hannah Elizabeth Swann. In addition, he is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Keith Thomas and wife Rachel (deceased), Jean Rhodes, Bill Lindsey and wife Tommie, and Pat Harris and husband David.

A funeral will be held at 2:00 PM of Thursday, January 1, 2009 at Beulah Baptist Church, 7088 Willow Road, Etowah, North Carolina, with the Rev. Dewey Barnwell officiating. The family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 from 7:00-8:30 PM at Jackson Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Beulah Baptist Church Missionary Fund.

Condolences can be made for the family by creating a condolence card.  E-mail us from the link below a message for the family, and we will print it and give it to them for you.  Please make sure you put Mr. Burgess' name in the subject line.
