William Hathaway Ashton Sr., 74, of Hendersonville passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2008 after a long illness.
He was the son of the late William Horlock and Mildred Hathaway Ashton and was preceded in death by a baby boy, Joseph. A resident of Henderson County for 20 years, served in US Army during the Korean Conflict and was an instructor for the guided missile program with NATO Forces. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity, a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a longtime public servant with the Knights of Columbus. He had a successful career as a master coffee roaster and restauranteur. He worked with George Hathaway Coffee in Chicago, the family business, and was the president of Dine-Mor Foods in Chicago. He owned the Coffee Roaster Café in Boca Raton, Florida and Hathaway’s Café in Biltmore Village in Asheville.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Ruth Ann Ashton of Hendersonville; a son, William Hathaway Ashton Jr. of Raleigh; two daughters, Anne Elizabeth Christ and husband Thomas of Asheville, and Melissa Klar Ruoff and husband Charles of Weaverville; three grandchildren, Nicholas Ashton, Zachary Ashton and Samantha Ruoff; and close dear friends, Lulu and Frank Miceli of Fairview.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hendersonville, Saturday, November 08, 2008. A reception for family and friends will be held following the memorial mass.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
